The eighth National
Conference of the Public Library Association (PLA) was held in
Charlotte, North Carolina from March 28 to April 1, 2000.
Thomas J. Hennen
Jr. spoke on March 30 from 10:30 to 11:45 A.M. in Room 202.
His topic is “The Best Libraries in America: An Exploration
of the HAPLR Index.”
Library
Journal designated the
program a “pick.” LJ
"picks"
represent current "burning issues" in the public library
field, and most are programs to which an LJ reporter has been
assigned. They noted:
“Hear Tom Hennen defend his HAPLR (Hennen's American Public Library
Ratings) and attempt to answer that question. Many think it is still
unanswered, despite his efforts.”
